As I grow older, I find my shopping habits evolving. Back in the days of carefree spending, I used to take my freshly printed paycheck to the closest mall, and buy fun tops and accessories. When I evaluate my wardrobe now, I realize that I care very little for the “fun” top I bought last year, or some piece of trendy costume jewelry. Instead I look at my pair of diamond studs that my mother (begrudgingly) handed down to me, or my rabbit fur jacket, that I had to put on three credit cards (and pay 27 dollars in cash) to afford. Items like these make the splurge worthwhile because they withstand the test of time. Certain wardrobe essentials are timeless, will always be coveted, and thus worth investing your money in. Here are some of my favorite and most essential investment pieces.
I find wallets to be an underrated accessory. While changing handbags is common and often essential with an outfit change, wallet changes occur infrequently. And unless you have superhero thrifty powers, you will most likely be pulling your wallet out multiple times throughout the day. Thus, investing in a great wallet is a necessity, like this classic Bottega Veneta Intrecciato zip wallet that I guarantee will never go out of style.
I feel no shame in admitting that I happen to have a bit of a handbag fetish. On particularly pitiful days where I cannot dress myself in anything but sweatpants, I make sure to wear one of my most gorgeous handbags (for no other reason than to prove I, am in fact, not homeless). A great bag can last forever, especially since most high-end brands will mend any wear and tear that accumulates.
I’m currently lusting over this incredible Balenciaga brown chain shoulder bag (which also happens to be 50% off…).
I truly believe that it’s the shoes and handbags that make the outfit, which is why one must invest in a great pair of boots and a great pair of pumps.
These Pierre Hardy Brushed boots are classic, and will go with just about anything. I’ve spent my whole life obsessing over anything and everything animal print, which might be the reason
I consider these Jerome Rousseau cheetah pony hair pumps as timeless and essential to any wardrobe. These shoes instantly glam up a black dress or even a pair of jeans. If cheetah pumps aren’t your idea of an investment piece, then these beautiful Pura Lopez black suede platform pumps most certainly will be. You can’t go wrong with a black pump, and as an owner of these beauties, I must include that they are superbly comfortable.
I was afraid when I bought my first leather jacket a couple of years ago, that this obsession would merely be a fad. I could not have been more incorrect. The leather jeacket is iconic, timeless, and is an absolutely worthy investment. I love to juxtapose the harshness of my black leather jacket with a pale cable knit sweater. Whatever your style, you cannot go wrong with a leather jacket like this A.L.C. two pocket leather jacket.
The fur vest was a hit this year, and like the leather jacket, I see this as a worthy investment in your wardrobe. This rabbit fur vest by Preen is simple, gorgeous, and can be worn with or without the belt. This picture also does not do it any justice; it is stunning in person.
The only time hand-me-downs are fun, is when they are your mother’s diamond earrings.
That’s how I was lucky enough to acquire mine, and I have to say, there is nothing better than a diamond stud. It never goes out of style, retains it’s value and can be worn with anything, at all times. These beautiful diamond and platinum earrings are a great alternative to the ordinary stud.
Any and all of these investment pieces can be worn with a pair of skinny jeans and a shirt for a fabulous outfit that will never go out of style.
